Magical Life After Death

Egyptian Funerary Model from the MET: A Granary

In honor of the Egyptians' belief in a magical afterlife, fifth graders are designing funerary models to place in the tombs of the deceased. It was believed that these models came to life to provide the dead with their everyday needs. After researching various models, partners chose to design such models as a garden, a butcher shop, a granary, a fishing boat, a military troop, a weaver's shop, and a bakery. Over the next few days, this design work will take place in the STEAM lab with students creating Egyptian figures and other elements out of newspaper, craft paper, glue.  The goal is to keep the models authentic and simple. Stay tuned for our exhibit!
